[Main Building]

A picture of a building at the London School of Economics and Political Science in the UK where I will soon be studying my brains out this fall.

September 2nd, 2001

Hey! I'm not dead!

I'm not even sure that I should try and think of an excuse as to why I have not updated this page in months. I'm really embarrassed. However, as indicated by my last post, I was really busy this summer. I did find a summer job - but it had me doing 44-50 hour weeks which effectively wiped me out. (I know you are all crying me a river.)

But I do have big news. I am going to do my Masters in International Relations at the London School of Economics and Political Science in London England this October! I can't tell you how excited I was to find out that I was accepted.

Since I did not get in residence, I have to go find a place to live. Therefore, I am leaving for the UK early during the beginning of September and I have been busy planning and getting ready to leave - so that is the other reason that this page has been sorely neglected.

And that is also why I wanted to do a decent update before I leave. I am not sure how often I will be able to update the page while I am over in London - although I promise to do my best. Also, I may be out of the loop on immediate Canadian events for a while.

So my next update will be from the other side of the "pond." I can't believe it!

Anyway, back to the page. This time around I have added a gazillion links on that page with a new map section to boot! Also, keeping up with my International Relations studies, I added a page about Canada and its memberships in various international organizations which you can check out here. Lastly, I had the opportunity to take a ride on the HMCS Kingston from Oshawa to Hamilton this past week to check out some naval maneuvers, my sea-sickness threshold, and some sailors!!!!.... Wait - never mind. But read about it here in the ever-popular Adventures in Politics page.

Cheerio!

May 8, 2001

I can't believe that I missed two whole months! But believe me, (and here's the eternal excuse) I have been REALLY busy lately - and I mean REALLY. I had my formal, final exams, some more conferences and I finished up my time at Queen's. I'm still waiting on my marks, but I think it is pretty fair to say that I have graduated. Convocation is next month.

I also have been job hunting. I didn't really think about the whole "job" thing until I got back home in late April. That was kind of a mistake. Anyway, here's hoping for some employment soon.

I do owe a HUGE apology to anyone who has e-mailed me through the site in the last few weeks. I haven't had reliable e-mail access since today and I will do my best to get back to everyone ASAP.

So what have I been doing with the site - well I do have some cool new stuff around these parts. First of all, a good friend of mine, who is a Ph.D. student, wrote a really interesting history paper election fraud in Canada (and you thought that only happened in Florida!). Entitled Machiavelli's Machine, it's in the Soapbox section and I really recommend that you check it out.

A source that wished to remain anonymous also sent me a TON of links to put up. I haven't gotten through them all yet, but I have posted a lot of new ones on the Links page.

So here is to having some more stuff on here soon... (and a job, because I would still like to afford this page.)

Yep. Late again.

But I hope you believe me when I tell you that (as always) I have been very busy with school and in attending some conferences. To be honest, the outlook until the end of the term is pretty bleak. I have a lot of work that I am sure my professors would love for me to hand in.

On the interesting side, I am going to graduate soon! (At the end of April - I hope!) It's kind of strange - a lot of my friends are getting jobs. Like my friend Anson who got a cool job with IBM Canada in Toronto. (I guess that is what happens when you take something marketable - like engineering as opposed to political studies.) Actually, I was more impressed that he got around to updating his page.

So in the mean time, I have not been able to write anything great for the page. However, I have added a crazy number of links to the site. The immigration page in particular has some interesting links, including one on relocating to Canadian cities. There is useful information on the cost of living in Canada, information on the different places, etc.

So I hope to have something useful up here soon. Maybe even something funny - it's been a while since I have done that. Let's see - an American, an Englishman and a Canadian walk into a bar....

Just a quick update - but I am really excited about this one! I received permission from Mr. Thomas Axworthy, a distinguished Canadian diplomat, to use one of his articles on my web page! Entitled: How to Win Friends and Influence in Washington, the article talks about the challenges that Canada will face with the new American Administration and what our country will have to do to achieve its foreign policy goals.  Located in the  Soapbox section.

Wow - what isn't new. I went a little crazy with the updates this time around... Yeah, uh, about that late thing... okay - I am a little late again. But I have been applying to graduate schools (which is a very complicated process.)

Congratulations to my Member of Parliament for Kingston and the Islands, Peter Milliken who was elected to be Speaker of the House over 12 other candidates! Read about Parliament on the revised Government page.

Within the last little while there are now two new premiers in Newfoundland and Saskatchewan. The Premiers page has been updated accordingly. I also updated the Foreign Policy page with the new Secretary of State for Asia Pacific.

I have begun to report on my Adventures In Politics(tm) for 2001

Lastly, I have added a pile of new links! Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to e-mail me a suggestion (it makes me feel important!)

Cheers!

PS: The Canadian equivalent to Punxsutawny Phil the Ground Hog - Wiarton Willie, disagreed with his southern brother and predicted an early spring. However, as I type this there is a minor blizzard outside. Hence the saying: "On that secular occasion known as groundhog day, I put no faith in any animal afraid of its own shadow."

Happy New Year (and official millennium)!!!!

Um, okay. I haven't exactly been the best web master lately: namely that I completely skipped an update in November and I'm late with December's. However, I am a student and things get crazy around the end of the term. (I am sure you are crying me a river.)

So, in exchange for my tardiness, I have added a few things to the page to make up for it. First of all, I have created an Elections Results Page to go with the Election page (naturally showing off the fact that we knew who our leader would be in two hours instead of two months...). I also reorganized the Adventures in Politics Page while adding some to it. That part of the page has been neglected for quite a while. There are also some unnecessary pictures of me to satisfy my ego.

The Foreign Policy section has also been updated. However, I found out that the government beat me to what I wanted to do - and likely did a better job of it. So while I have kept the information that is there, there is a link to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to get their history in their own words.

There is also a new web site posted in the Links section: The Great Canadian Website

I don't have any articles to put in the Soapbox but I hope to soon. I just have to pester some friends. Or heck, submit something yourself! Think of it as a New Year's resolution.

Cheers!
