| Pages | Aboot Me Hi! I'm Stephanie. I am interested in political science, international relations and Canadian and world history. I have a BAH in Arts (focusing on Political Studies with courses in political theory and international relations) at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. Right now I'm in the middle of a PhD in International Relations at the London School of Economics and Political Science in the UK.
How did this site come around? Well it is an interesting tale of intrigue and deception.... or rather the combination of a Canada-loving political-geek, a couple conferences and a long summer.... In March 1996, I attended the FORUM FOR YOUNG CANADIANS conference for one week in Ottawa - the Capital of Canada. There, my interest in Canada and the Canadian government was heightened through meeting various officials and getting to visit government institutions in general. At the conference I met Canadians my own age from every part of the country and of every different background imaginable. (If any senior high school student is interested, they should visit the Forum Home page at www.forum.ca - it really is a worth while experience.) In March of 1997, I attended PRESIDENTIAL
CLASSROOM FOR YOUNG AMERICANS' FUTURE WORLD LEADER SUMMIT. This
program is the American equivalent to Forum and takes place in the US capital
Washington D.C. However, this week focused on international relations and 28
delegations from different countries attended. I was a part of the Canadian
delegation.( I was happy to be reunited with some of my Forum Friends.) It was a
worthwhile experience and I was able to learn more about how my country
interacts with the rest of the world. (If any senior high school student is
interested they should visit their website at: http://www.presidentialclassroom.org/)
I have one wacky brother, Chris, and two great parents (see photo) in my home town of Oshawa, Ontario. Through this web site I am trying to increase knowledge of Canada (although most likely the only people to come hear will be looking for research information for projects etc.) and maybe this will help out Canadian unity is some small manner. I will try to have this page in French soon as I take my lessons as this page would not truly reflect Canada unless it was bilingual. (Okay, so I have said this forever now - but man, life...uh... really takes a chunk out of your life. It's going to happen one of these days!) I invite your criticism, comments or questions. :) Stephanie, May 2004. |
